Snip That Visa! Confessions of a Shopaholic - A Movie Review

You know you're a shopaholic when:

1. When stresses at work get you down, you resort to shopping.
2. When your boyfriend dumps you, you resort to shopping.
3. When you're happy, you resort to shopping.

We know that this is a very girly topic, but if you're in the mood for a chick flick with a great lesson and a bit of warm fuzzy romantic feelings, then Confessions of a Shopaholic is the movie to watch this weekend.

If you're looking for a bit of light laughs while learning a few life lessons, you may catch quite a bit through this movie.

Confessions of a Shopaholic is the story of a funny, adorable New York journalist, Rebecca Bloomwood, who gets herself in a truckload of trouble when she maxes out all of her credit cards, BUT lands a new job as a down-home financial advice columnist who gives the most sensible money management advice to the average joes and janes, and even... Her parents.

In Confessions of a Shopaholic, you are sure to get into a whole lot of laughs and a whole lot of "Aww, I just wanna hug her," moments. The movie's sense of humor is a combination of verbal/intellectual humor, but leans more heavily on slapstick, with a bit of class.

Jog with Rebecca, as she coasts through the movie, in the process of her reformation from debt-ridden clueless girl to a young lady who has fought her giants and won.

And as all chick flicks go, there's always a knight in shining armor. Rebecca's boss eventually became her prince charming. Luke Brandon, played by Hugh Dancy, became Rebecca's knight in shining armor in several quirky, heartwarming, even surprising moments.

And what chick flick would be complete without the ever-loyal best buddy? Rebecca's best buddy Suze, played by former model and rock band girl Krysten Ritter, a dead ringer for Princess Diaries' Anne Hathaway, provides both stability for our girlfriend Rebecca and an unlikely twist towards the end of the story.

Confessions of a Shopaholic isn't all about the gloss, the shimmer, and the glimmer of a glamour girl journalist's life. It isn't all about a funny/quirky take on a serious issue (overspending and shopaholism). Confessions of a Shopaholic also offers insights into interpersonal relationships, and how lies and deception could taint otherwise happy and healthy ties, especially when addiction issues (shopaholism), debts, and other financial woes are involved. Indeed, this movie packs a punch in life lessons, and gives it to you wrapped inside a gum ball: serious lessons learned in a fun package.

Bring your sister, your aunt, or your mom, or even all of them when you watch this movie. Guaranteed to make you shed tears, as well as give you the biggest belly-aching laughs on a happy Saturday evening.
